Hi Ian,
I'm more than pleased with the CXC. The initial brightness has long since disappeared and it's turned out to be a good reliable player. The apparent brightness may have been due to the almost new interconnects I used then. I would recommend it, it was certainly an improvement on my old Analoge Audio Maestro player even when used purely as a transport into the Majestic. Ian |

Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.

I bought a CLC TL5 from buysmartjapan.com. The CXC could be had for $700 here in Australia at the time, and shipped to my the CLC cost $1,150. I can thoroughly recommend it as a terrific sounding and reliable transport. There are so few in the market!

What are the current thoughts on a CD Transport?
Which model s are worth putting on the audition list?

New CD transports are rare these days but still relevant given all the CDs still in use..
I've used an MF M1 transport for a few years & it has been very good - unfortunately no longer made. The Audiolab 6000CDT has been well reviewed & looks solid & well made.

When I was looking into a new CD player / Transport a couple of years ago, I was advised by John Sampson (who was rebuilding my MF A1) that the then, unbeatable choice was an Oppo BDP105. quote.... 'Forget everything else.'
The consensus of those to whom I spoke was this... Nothing comes close for a CD player under £2.5k If N**m or L**n made this it would retail at around £4.5k they simply can't make the volume which gave Oppo such a price advantage. JS told me of the numerous 'High End' CD players he had auditioned and that many were NOT High Fidelity circuits nor performance, Big priced Brand BS, strike a chord?? His own modified MF A3.5CD was for the money 'unbeatable' and that his Oppo BDP105 was a very close second. I purchased an ex dem model from a local hifi specialist with full 2yr guarantee as Oppo introduced the 205bdp. Oppo have now stopped all future disc based players. Obviously this means S/H but I had no problems with mine, which may have done significant service as a demo model. Highly recommended and..... they throw in a BluRay player. Which is Nice. IMHO I expect soon the usual hi-fi industry response to a now increasingly niche market with silly prices for mid-fi performance. Am I just terribly Cynical.....?
