Should be really good.
Yes, love it

Have you 'tweaked' the standard 1200G at all Andrew with an alternative headshell, mat etc?
Cheers.

GR is aluminium.

I believe the 'GR has a lighter platter with no brass layer & a simplified single rotor motor.
The arm is different too (As Chris says).
The G's top plate is a solid sheet & the GR's is cast.

I prefer the Funk Achromat to the standard mat & that is the only 'tweak' I anticipate making on this table (don't feel the need to do anything else).

As for headshells, as well as the Technics I also have a few magnesium ADCs (purchased in the '70s or '80s), a couple of magnesium Stantons & several Technics clones but I wouldn't say I compare them or have a favourite, just something to mount various carts onto (several do have Litz headshell wires though).
Older than I once was, younger than I'll be

According to Technics blurb the GR has a lot of different parts to the G.

New motor & circuitry, heavier cast, laminated platter with rubber damping layers.
Changes to chassis & feet.
New arm.
Bit more erring towards HiFi than DJ
Is the pursuit High Fidelity a sign of mental illness??
I think so....

The original SL1200 was a hi-fi deck but was adopted as a disco deck.
