When I started this topic, I wanted to give some examples of great fusion jazz.
Good cohesive rhythm that gets you moving, "In The Groove", and smo-o-o-o-oth .
After tweaking my SL1600, I am enjoying Skywalk's album, "Silent Witness".
I had a real hard time finding this 10 years ago and paid $50.00 for it.
I would have paid more for it, I love it that much.

I most definitely liked the fusion jazz of yesteryear.
As I lived only 3/4 of a mile from Newport's festival field in the 50's and 60's,
my family and I would get to hear the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals for free by sitting on our front porch!

The Newport Jazz Festival was in Newport, Rhode Island, originally right next to Miantonomi Park.
When my friends and I got older, we would go to the back side of Miantonomi Park and listen there.

If you're not afraid of jazz with a little funk and spiritualisms thrown in, try this this one:

Phil Ranelin - Vibes from the Tribe

Reissued on Pure Pleasure this year with an AAA cut. I think this one has been reissued several times over the years and I would imagine the quality varies somewhat, but this version is very nicely done. At U.S. retail prices it isn't cheap but still a lot less expensive than a first pressing. A few of the tracks slow down and have Ranelin's sing/speak vocals that might be an acquired taste for some.

Mingus Dynasty -Live at Montreux (1981).

Some outstanding bass playing from 2 bass players, and a very well recorded set despite it being an early 80's digital recording.

Today's pick - a rather prolific drummer's 1974 album on the great Muse label.

Listening to Weather Report's album "Heavy Weather".
I almost forgot I had this gem!
