Well maybe just a couple more…
The Edizione Vivaldi box sets from Philips are ridiculously good. The records are phenomenal, and the pressings sound better than any I’ve heard from MoFi, Speakers Corner, any 220g, etc, etc. I’m not a big Vivaldi guy at all, but these end up in heavy rotation somehow. On the subject, the Standage/Pinnock Four Seasons was also a surprising delight. Also Serkin’s Marlboro festival Mozart concertos. As a bonus he only hums about 20% as often as Gould. Ok. I’m good. Oh, and these are all basically dollar discs at this point… in the audio world it’s nice to feel like you’re getting away with something sometimes

Oh dear. I just joined for the loaner program, and the first thread I see is something I could talk about for hours… maybe the only thing I could talk about for hours…
But don’t worry, I will *eye twitches* keep it brief. Hilary Hahn’s Bach concertos are lively beautiful and fun. Vikingur Olafson’s JS Bach album is extremely accessible, yet provides a fantastic survey of the ways Bach’s music stands apart. Gil Kalish’s Hayden piano recordings (Nonesuch) are excellent in every way, and any disc in the set can be had for about the price of postage. Any of these, IMHO would likely convert someone who thinks of music of nice background noise into someone who find themself frozen with interest at increasing intervals, and ultimately a critical listener with a genuine love for the genre

I'm sure that's a lovely set Rich! I suppose the organs shown on the cover are the ones used in the recordings. Very differing venues I see!

Set of four LPs, each recorded in a different location.
Generally beautifully recorded, with the differing acoustics and ambience of the locations clearly audible. |

Currently listening to Glenn Gould's Op.1 (and only, pretty much) for the first time:
Have to say I'm mightily impressed in a late Bartok/Shostakovich fashion. While I've got pretty much all of GG's unique Bach output on vinyl, I didn't feel I could justify punting upwards of £50 for an LP copy of the String Quartet on Discogs - hence the CD...
