Really nice work. I used to have a Q-deck but it had a tragic accident. Wish I had kept the arm which was pretty decent.

Graham have you considered stripping the motor/PCB and platter from a 1200/10 to fit into a new chassis?

Certainly have considered the possibility but the problem is finding a donor turntable for a sensible price.
Down here in NZ Technics owners think their turntables are priceless even if they have spent their life at the hands of a wild DJ. I have my eye on an armless SL120 at present.

Cheers
Graham.

Thanks Graham, I agree about the price/availability. I saw a beaten up £120 SL1200 a few weeks back and thought about trying a couple of hardwood slabs with the motor and PCB sitting on the bottom one with a cover over the cutout in the top slab. I got as far as the armboard mounting then I thought about the state of the platter and whether the results would look decent. Your excellent work reminded me of that fleeting moment.

I know it's odd to post a reply to such an old post but I thought it was the ideal place to show the forum a picture of my own DIY turntable. A defunct L*nn Axis was the donor for the bearing, inner & outer platters. The motor was from a retired LP12, the Project 9cc was off of Ebay ( as was the power supply ), and the Goldring G1042 came to me via Gumtree where some bloke didn't like the sound of it.

The idea(s) behind my design were isolation, isolation, isolation, the 20mm thick acrylic plinth rest on aluminium feet placed on top of sorbothane hemispheres. The main plinth 35mm Baltic birch ply holds the motor and the power supply. The top plinth holds the bearing and arm is 12mm think and separated from the motor plinth by 10mm think sorbothane washers.

Great experience, would recommend anyone have a go at there own.
