I have a very simple way of dealing with all this kind of thing.

If I can hear a noise through my speakers when I touch or move something... i.e if it's microphonic in any way, I go to some pains to isolate it from vibration. Or work out what's wrong with it.

That means turntables, some valve gear & cables only if they are attached to one of those things.

Otherwise it just sits on a decent quality stand that doesn't annoy the missus too much.

But then I'm not one of those people that claim to hear a difference if all the screws in their 13 amp plugs are dressed. i.e. all the slots aligned vertically...... or was that horizontally?....damn!!!

oh yeah almost forgot. I think Ash meant something like this?

.....The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the 'milky way......

Assuming that the amplifiers in question are well designed and built.
Thanks for your honest expertise.

Graham replied 'On all convenient surfaces IMO.'

That solves the most important issue - 'Keep the missus happy'  - no 'industrial' racks required!

I am not sure where I will be allowed to put them though. The key word is convenient!

I can't believe where my simple question has led. Ash certainly has had some advanced physics lessons.I can remember particles acceleration up slopes and anticlockwise moments - trouble is I was never able to put such knowledge to use in my working life!!!

Many years ago a retailer told me that my new LP12 (that he had just sold me) would perform best on a Audiotech stand, spiked into my solid floor, or a cheap and cheerful side table from Ikea. I bought the special spiked stand because it looked the part and gave me the warm feeling that I was doing the LP12 justice. So there are, and always were, honest enthusiasts in the business.

I must say that being new to this forum, and Graham Slee products, there is a refreshing sense of honesty and informed experience that people genuinely want to share.  There's a sense of fun and humour too!

Alan, we hope you will enjoy being part of the gang. We're just people sharing what we can. And me, being in it for the long haul, it would be unwise for me to use BS - far better to offer honesty and present it in a humble manner - otherwise it would feel like you were being coerced.

It's been known that my humour can be misinterpreted purely because I forget to use emoticons, or use them properly. I'm the first to admit I'm not perfect (yet Wink).

So please stick around.

Physics, relativity and astrophysics were in my degree (many years ago, sob!) so I could do a sciency-bit but won't. I take the same practical approach as DaveG (and others above) to identify microphonic equipment. I agree about sensible solid structures, whether adapting domestic furniture or buying purpose-built hi-fi stands.
