My hobby is restoring classic turntables and occasionally building one-off custom made turntables.
This is my latest project being built to order and will be sent all the way to the UK. ( Talk about sending coals to Newcastle ! )
The main mechanical components are from several donor turntables including the platter and bearing, DC motor, and Jelco tonearm.
The handmade plinth is from 2 layers of finger jointed Beech separated by soft rubber pads.
The motor is attached to the bottom layer while the platter bearing and tonearm are attached to the top layer. This way any motor vibration is prevented from being felt by the platter, tonearm and cartridge. It is a non-suspended design but does have shock absorbing feet to help with isolation from vibration.
Cheers
Graham.

The tonearm was from an Ariston Q Deck and the platter, bearing and motor were from a belt drive Technics.

I've rebuilt a couple of Technics SL1200 turntables but must admit the motors on both were fine so didn't need any attention. Just lubed the bearings.
