hmm, ok
I still have a Goldring 1042 with broken needle on my TD150 which I could use with GR.
I'll think about it.
Or I may have to look for a second Hand Accession and/ or cables to save money on the other end.
Though I rarely see them.

Thanks Kevin!

Have a look at both.
From what I read the 1200GR is a cheaper version of the 1200G, and the Mk7 is a cheaper version of the GR.

There are plenty of threads online where comparisons are done.

I bought a 1200 MK7 in May of last year. Love it, and have no regrets buying it. Great deck provided it is set up properly, same with any turntable. Before I got the MK7, I used vintage DD decks mainly.

The GR is really nice, and what I had originally planned to buy. However, I had some unexpected things come up, which would have required me pushing out my plans even further after waiting some time to buy a new turntable.

So what I did was get the MK7, with the expectation that I could return it if I didn't like it. I ended up keeping it.

You can read the review I wrote here:

If you can afford a GR, by all means get the GR, or even the G if that is within your budget.

As for the 1500C, I know a few people that have it and they are satisfied. However, I definitely prefer a classic 1200 look, and the extra features of the 1500 aren't of much use to me. Some people like the look of the 1500C and buy it for that reason.

Quite honestly, I think the best info is on the Technics website, where construction differences are described in detail.

Agreed. Ideally you have more than one cart to test an old record with. Some old records I have sound fantastic with advanced profiles while I prefer to play really beat up records with a conical stylus. Easy enough to change carts on a 1200 if need be.

I should also mention that G.S. preamps tend to reduce surface noise a bit compared to other phono preamps I have used. One of the big reasons I stick with G.S. now over other brands.

A new stylus for your 1042 would be a cost effective option. I had one for a long time and loved it. It sounded really good with Graham's Era Gold V phono amp that I was using at the time, and I can only imagine what detail the Accession would bring out in it. Wink
