Relatively brief trial of Enigma/cable vs my Elevator both on upgraded mains leads but my EXP only had the standard captive bell wire DC cable.

Confirmed that on my Elevator the F8 config was barely discernable but settled on the original way round as used originally and my Accession possibly a whisker better.

A relatively quick conclusion as swapping is straight forward and probably getting to know the sound differences.

My existing PSU did have a slightly heavier and more forward balance maybe vocals were less clean.  By comparison the Enigma combo did have a tighter, lighter and crisper bass and was less forward.

Differences are not huge and whilst preferred the Enigma combo do suspect the DC lead as experienced previously was detracting from the Standard PSU.

I will ponder but suspect may well at this stage invest in a new DC lead from Graham as I suspect this is accounting for quite a lot of the differences and is likely more cost effective for me in my system on the Elevator.

Having received my new Enigma DC Lead from John C some weeks ago I finally dropped it on to my Elevator a few days ago to allow it to burn in and settled down to some listening, not particularly for objective reasons and just to a general listening session.  Based on previous experiences with the Enigma I believe I can identify the sound signature albeit on not that recently listened to vinyl.

Once I have listened more extensively I will switch back to the stock lead but initial impressions do indicate a lighter and tighter low frequency signature - the mid-vocal areas I will reserve judgement for now on.

In follow up to my previous brief update on the Enigma DC lead on my Elevator I have changed some of my observations.

I have now left the new Enigma cable on my Elevator for 10 days now so would expect this DC lead to be burned in.

As I have found previously the acid test is often when removing rather than inserting a component in the system.

My recent flirtation with the Enigma PSU/Accession MC/PSU Enigma cable and comparisons on the Accession MM did demonstrate the changes the Enigma cable did make on the Accession and in simple terms it was preferred in the lower frequencies to my more expensive custom made pure silver lead but inferior in the mid-upper /vocal ranges.

Using the new Enigma DC lead against the ‘stock’ lead on my Elevator by comparison sounded smaller, a little flat/grey/bland/narrow and lacking tonal colour and detail.  By comparison the Enigma DC cable widened the soundstage, with more spare and air and better defined, tighter and more powerful bass.  The mid-was purer and lacking some mush and made the music more interesting and dynamic with vocals maybe more projected (less hidden) and clearer.

Personally and in my system I would have no hesitation in recommending this upgrade over the stock DC cable, this has proved a cost effective investment and will certainly keep me going until I (one day progress to the AccMC/Enigma).  From my earlier comparison I found the Engina DC upgrade more noticeable than the Enigma/DC previously loaned on my Elevator.

Thank you John C for making this short cable up for me and Jon is the Enigma DC lead available on the loan scheme for others to try?

Thanks Richard for your testing. The Enigma DC cable is available to try on loan when not being loaned out with the Enigma PSU1 supply.
